WUC Committee Elections
On Saturday, 17th of May 2008 Wellington UMNO Club (WUC) organized its Inaugural General Meeting (IGM) at Meeting Room 1 & 2 of the Student Union Building, Victoria University. The purpose of the meeting was to elect new committee members for 2008. The posts contested were Secretary, Economics, Operations and Public Relations Officers. The individuals holding the posts of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Chief of Public Relations remain in leading the club.
Candidates were nominated through the online form on www.umnowellington.com earlier this week. The number of nominees was later shortlisted to 22 and these candidates were nominated at least 3 times. On Friday, the nominees’ speeches were recorded on video as a manifesto come Saturday’s elections. Members of the club were informed of the people contesting for the various posts prior to the IGM.
The meeting started with the club president explaining the aims, organization structure and planned activities. Later, the recordings of the speeches were presented to the audience giving them an idea of the candidates’ capabilities and experiences. One candidate gave her speech spontaneously during the meeting due to her unavoidable absence on Friday.
The election of the secretary marked the start of the day’s main agenda. The voting process went swiftly as the contests for Economics, Operations and Public Relations officers were done all at once, with individuals placed in teams members thought would suit them best. The IGM ended
with a lucky draw as a token of appreciation for nominators.
Currently, there are four Operations officers, three Economics officers and three Public Relations officers. The new committee became effective immediately.
