Taking on the challenge

Wellington: First Things First

In early 2007, Wellington UMNO Club participated in the pre-departure briefing organized by UMNO South Australia. Meant to bridge new and senior students studying in Australia and New Zealand, the programme was a big success. So here we bring you the set of information provided during the event which could be useful for new comers, especially those planning to study in Wellington or New Zealand in general.

‘Te Wero’ is a Maori tradition meaning

The Challenge.

The early Maori always performed a ceremony when visitors came to their

Marae (home).

Someone from the marae would step outside and place a token on the ground.

If the visitor picked up the token, the local people would know that the visitor was a friend, not an enemy.

We hope that you will pick up the token (metaphorically) and become our friends.

We hope too that you will find you new challenge and exciting and fruitful one.
